20 Tips to be Happy & Healthy

We all crave happiness in our lives, and most of us welcome new ways to increase our daily dose of joy. Fortunately, there are many things within our control that have the potential to enrich and enliven our days.
Read on for my suggested 20 tips and tricks to help boost your overall health and happiness.

  1. Read at least 30 minutes each day. The goal here would also be to read books that help improve your health and happiness. Some of my favorite authors are Jack Canfield, John Maxwell and Rhonda Byrne.
  2. Listen to relaxing music.  Avoid watching too much television. Turn off the television and play some relaxing music which will put you in a better mood.

  3. Live with gratitude. Write in a gratitude journal to remind yourself of everything you have to be thankful for in life. It can be very simple.
  4. Play more. Don’t take everything in life too seriously. Have fun. Laugh hard. Try something new.
  5. Avoid gossip. Gossiping about other moms from school or the neighborhood?  Not a good idea. This never makes you feel good and really suggests that you could be the one with the issues.
  6. Text a great friend your gratitude for their friendship. We often forget to tell those closest to us just how happy we are to have them in our lives. Make their day and let them know.
  7. Make a weekly grocery list. This will save a lot of time and money and allow you to eat healthier and spend more time with your family.
  8. Eat dinner as a family. Eat together at least four to six nights each week with your family. Research shows that teens who eat dinner with their family regularly are less likely to use drugs, feel depressed or get into trouble.
  9. Create your to-do list before you go to bed each night. You will have a much more efficient day if you wake up and already have your plan for the day.
  10. Smile more often.  Smiling makes you look younger and more attractive. It also reduces blood pressure and makes others want to be around you.
  11. Power down. Turn your cell phone ringer off and set it down so you can be present for life and love. Stop holding your phone and staring at it like you are waiting for a text, email, or phone call that is more important than the people who are with you.
  12. Try a Tabata. You might know that I love Tabatas, if you follow my work. A Tabata is a four-minute HIIT Training (high-intensity interval training). Do an exercise such as jump squats for 20 seconds followed by a 10-second rest, and then repeat eight times so it takes four minutes total.
  13. Prepare to drink each day. As soon as you wake up each day, get a big tumbler and fill it with ice cold water. This gets you on track to drink well throughout the day.

  14. Time Blocking. This strategy helped me tremendously to write my last book and accomplish my daily tasks. Set your phone timer to minute blocks to achieve tasks such as 45 minutes or 60 minutes and stay completely focused without phone or email interruptions. It's a great way to stay focused to achieve your daily tasks and work towards your goals.
  15. Tell your kids you love them at least once a day. You might assume they already know but kids love to hear it often and it’s impossible to say it too much. Share the love.
  16. Be generous. Make a person’s day by being generous. It could be as simple as buying a stranger coffee or the groceries for the person behind you at the supermarket. It will feel good to make someone’s day.
  17. Avoid the energy vacuums in your life. If you know people who are really negative, seriously limit or avoid spending time with that person. Spend more time with people who are more positive.
  18. Listen better. Most people talk too much, instead of truly listening, when talking to others. It’s amazing how much you can learn when you talk less and listen more.
  19. Be a person of your word. If you say you are going to do something, do it. This is very simple, but it's amazing how many people don’t keep their word.
  20. Commit to have more fun every day in your life. Bust out laughing about something funny that happened and make a conscious effort to add more laughter into your day.
