If you live in southeast Kansas City, your tap water may be unsafe.
KC Water announced last night that a precautionary boil advisory was issued in southeast KC due to a water main break on Little Blue Road. The water company is telling residents of the boundary between Little Blue, West Chapel, Lee’s Summit and Woods Chapel roads to boil all drinking water before consuming, as the main break has caused contaminated water in this area.
If you’re within this boundary, here are a few precautions to take:
- Boil any tap water before for 3-plus minutes before drinking it or brushing your teeth.
- While it’s okay to shower or take a bath, watch small children to make sure they’re not swallowing any water.
- Clean all infected dishes using a bleach solution (one teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water).
- Don’t consume ice made with infected tap water.
Be sure to let the boiling water cool completely before any form of consumption. Keep an eye on KC Water’s Twitter account for a cancellation notice and until then, use precaution.
Kansas City can’t seem to catch a break. First, the weather failed us so pools didn’t open in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
