After a year off, the Kansas City Airshow returned for the July 4 weekend, with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds dazzling crowds on the Fourth of July.

The spectacle was part of a full slate of holiday events in Kansas City, and drew thousands.

Photographer Jeremey Theron Kirby was at the event to capture images for Kansas City magazine and got some amazing shots of military aircraft flying in tight formations. The planes took off from New Century AirCenter near Gardner in southwest Johnson County.

About 40,000 people were expected to be in attendance, our news partners at FOX 4 reported.
