The biggest barbecue event in the world is back: The World Series of Barbecue, held by KC-based American Royal, is returning this September.
The event will again happen at the Kansas Speedway, where it relocated from the Stockyards District, and go from September 16-19.
This will be the forty-first American Royal BBQ showdown. The event is among the most respected in the BBQ world, and is the largest.
“The World Series of Barbecue is often referred to as the ‘family reunion’ of competitive barbecue,” says Glen Alan Phillips, who leads the American Royal, which also hosts livestock shows and debutante balls. “It’s the one time during the year where all of the competitors, from the elites to the amateurs, get together in one space to fire up hundreds of smokers—and have a great time in the process.”
The details on what the competition will look like are still fuzzy, as we’ve come to expect from everything in this era, but the American Royal has confirmed that private parties hosted by competitors are back. The number of tickets that will be available for spectators is yet to be determined.
