You’ll want to take home every single fluffy friend at this Kansas City cat cafe

Whiskers Cat Café

Whiskers Cat Café (3705 S.W. Trafficway, Kansas City, Mo. 816-888-9701, whiskerskc.com) is heaven on earth for cat people. Audrey Boese and her fiance John Thompson opened Whiskers in conjunction with the KC Pet Project, and although the idea of a cat cafe isn’t all that new — there were over 40 up and running in 2018, and the number has risen since — it’s still bound to get a chuckle from your snootier acquaintances.

While they’re laughing, you can be living it up in the company of dozens of furry friends, all of whom are available for adoption. Whiskers is a reservation-only cafe: For $10, you get an hour with cats and kittens in the lounge area, plus a java beverage brewed with Messenger Coffee beans.

Visiting these cats and kittens invites a wave of emotions as you get to know their personalities. There’s 8-year-old Art, a pudgy orange tabby who will give you flirtatious head-butts before he abandons you for something shiny; he’s one of the Whiskers house cats and is not available for adoption. Many are rescues, such as Storage and Bin, two majestic, long-haired brothers who were found in a, uh, storage bin — and who are the absolute definition of lap cats.

Chances are, you will, like us, make your reservation at Whiskers under the impression that hanging out with cats might be a fine way to spend an hour. And after that hour, you will, like us, want to take home every single fluffy baby.
